Senior Ben Beasley rushed for 152 yards and four touchdowns, while teammate and senior Andrew Crowe passed for 195 yards and three scores as host Boyd-Buchanan defeated Silverdale Baptist, 54-7, in a 2A, District 5 high school football game Friday night.
The victorious Bucs (2-1, 1-0) scored all eight times the offense had the ball and led in total offense 470 to 147, while Silverdale put points on the board with 7:39 remaining in the game.
“We executed well on both sides of the ball and it is important to get this first district win,'' said Boyd-Buchanan coach Grant Reynolds who is 20-18 in four years at the helm.
Silverdale (1-2, 0-1) took the opening kickoff, converted one fourth down opportunity, but couldn't make good on a second and lost the ball on downs at its own 39-yard-line.
From there it was all Blue and Gold as the hosts needed only four plays in 1:23 to reach the Seahawks end zone with Beasley scoring from three yards out. Joey Glisson's extra point attempt was blocked for a 6-0 lead.
The Bucs went through the air for the next three scores, averaging 3.5 plays and 1:07 each, as Crowe connected with Trey Ferguson, twice, and Taylor Shull for a 28-0 lead at 4:28 before halftime.
Silverdale had an excellent opportunity to match Boyd's first score after Ryan Turner recovered a Shull fumbled punt at the Bucs 36.
But Shull then made up for his fumble with an interception three plays later.
Crowe needed just three plays to cover 82 yards, thanks to a successful catch-and-run post pattern by Ferguson who took the ball in stride at his own 40 yard line, broke a tackle and was off to the races. Glisson made good on his first of three PATs for a 14-0 score.
After a three-and-out by the visitors, Boyd was back in business at its 49.
Once again, Crowe was the key to the drive, running 32 yards to the Silverdale 18. After Beasley lost two, Crowe teamed with Ferguson again on a 20-yard pitch-and-catch for a 21-0 lead with 11:14 before intermission. Ferguson had three catches for 112 yards on the night.
Seahawks quarterback Wil Amos went back to work and moved the visitors 43 yards in eight plays to the Bucs 34, but a crucial holding call and an incompletion stalled the drive and forced a Henry Brandon punt to the Bucs 22.
Beasley went to work on the ground, moving the Bucs 26 yards in three plays to midfield before Shull turned a short sideline pass from Crowe into a slipped tackle and scamper to the Silverdale end zone and it was 28-0 at the 4:28 mark
Jake Lockert's fumble recovery at the Silverdale 30 set up Beasley's 30-yard run to pay dirt on the next plays and it was 34-0.
“We took care of them early and kept them down and that's what a good team does,'' said Reynolds to his team in the post-game huddle. “And I am proud of the second unit which came in and we didn't miss a beat.''
The second half was much the same for the victors as Beasley had scoring runs of 12 and 17 yards in the third period to push the lead to 47-0.
Sophomore running back Chase Reed took full advantage of his one carry on the night and raced 31 yards to the end zone at 4:32 of the fourth and a 54-7 lead, while Hale Jones split the uprights for the PAT.
Silverdale opened the fourth quarter with a 7-play, 54-yard scoring drive in 5:21.
Ethan Shamblin rushed for 11 yards, while Amos hit Tyler Barnett for 31 yards to the Bucs' 11 and then found Shamblin open in the back of the end zone three plays later for the tally. Henry's kick made it 47-7.
''Silverdale ran the wing well with Amos keeping the ball himself or dishing it off,'' said Reynolds.
On the night, Amos was 6-of-13 through the air for 38 yards and the one score, while Shamblin led the Seahawks in rushing with 32 yard on eight carries. Barnett ran seven times for 23 yards, while Henry Frick had 22 yards in six carries.
Crowe was 5-of-6 for the 195 yards and three scores, plsy 44 yards on the ground on four carries.
Beasley had 152 yards on 17 carries and a solid 8.9 yards per carry, while Rock Hood ran hard in his three carries late in the game for 36 yards.

Boyd-Buchanan: Trey McCalla led in tackles with 11, followed by Lance Headrick (9) and Ross Keasler (8).
Taylor Shull had an interceptionn, Seth Roy had a fumble recovery, Matthew Crowe caused a forced fumble and Jake Lockert had a fumble recovery and pass deflection.
Silverdale: Ryan Turner had a fumble recovery.
