The big news this week is not that Billy Joe Shaver is playing in town Saturday Night. The big news is the new venue in which he will play. The new Lindsay Street Hall plays host to the songwriter/musician at 10 p.m., immediately following the Riverfront Nights concert on the river. Located at the corner of MLK and Lindsay Street, this beautiful restoration of the 105-year-old First Congregational Church is spectacular. See pictures at bottom of page.

The Grand Hall accommodates up to 350 patrons, and the business already has secured a beer license. Friday night, after Nightfall, the New Binkley Brothers and Big Kitty play there, with Billy Joe Shaver taking the stage at 10 p.m. on Saturday Night. There is a chance Shaver will make a brief appearance at Riverfront Nights, but it is not confirmed. Phish definitely will not be there.

Nightfall and Riverfront Nights wind up the season with good concerts at both venues. The Gibson Brothers and The Dismembered Tennesseans will cap off a great Nightfall season on Friday night at Miller Plaza. Saturday night has Greensky Bluegrass and the Mountain Music Folk School playing on the riverfront.

The top attraction for the night should be Jeff Styles playing one song on the Dobro. Look out, Lou Wamp; Jeff is going to show you how to play! Jeff has been taking lessons from the Mountain Music Folk School to learn the dobro, and the word is they had their hands full. A real challenge would be to get them to teach me how to play the upright bass. Ha!

The Mountain Music Folk School can teach you, your kids, Mork & Mindy, your grandparents or just about anyone to play the guitar, banjo, bass, dobro, or fiddle. I have seen them in action and they really get you playing fast. Try this website right here. Classes start right away, so you can impress your relatives for the holidays.

Speaking of Jeff Styles, Riverbend 2010 is just 5,903 hours away. Who would you like to see play next summer at Riverbend? Email me at davrik2000@yahoo.com and let me know. I’ll pass on the results to the Riverbend folks in one neat tally. Last time I asked this question, I received over 200 emails. Let’s try for 500 this time.

If you like the blues, one of my favorite bands, Iron Mike and The Delta Rockers will be at T-Bones Friday Night. They put on a great show, the food is great, and the servers are the best! Speaking of T-Bones, the word on the street is that The Honky Dogs are reuniting for a Halloween show. That’s great news, as they were always a fun band to go see.

Bud Lightning broke all previous records at Bart’s Lakeshore a couple weeks ago, and they will be at Bud’s this Friday Night for another party, as well as Halloween at Bud’s.

The Chattanooga Market continues its Thursday Night Party series at Miller Plaza today. It will run from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and will feature many of the vendors that are at the Market on Sundays, plus Jennifer Daniels playing on stage!

The Hamilton County Fair will offer plenty of music this weekend, with Slim Pickins, Dalton Roberts, Emily Grace and many more acts. More info and the schedule can be found right here.

Bob’s pick-o-the-weekend has to be Billy Joe Shaver, playing at the new Lindsay Street Hall at MLK and Lindsay Street, Saturday night at 10 p.m.

Bob’s pick-o-the-week is Troy Underwood and John Lathim, playing at Mudpie tonight! I’ve heard each of these guys and they are both wonderful.

Live in Chattanooga this week!
