Thrills, Gills And Chills At The Tennessee Aquarium Underwater Pumpkin Carving Wednesday posted September 28, 2009 Two costumed divers will carve a six-foot pumpkin beneath the waves of the Tennessee Aquarium’s Lake Nickajack exhibit on Wednesday at 11 a.m. as part of the Thrills, Gills and Chills program. Guests will come across an animal encounter specialist in each Aquarium building every hour of every day. Locations and animals vary throughout each day. The new animal encounters are just one fiendishly cool facet of the month-long line-up. Throughout October, guests will be entertained by Thrills, Gills and Chills themed keeper talks, costumed divers and special feedings at the Tennessee Aquarium designed to bring you up close to nature’s most feared and often most misunderstood animals. Thrills, Gills & Chills Daily Schedule: Free with Aquarium admission 10:30 a.m. – Pumpkins and Penguins Ocean Journey, Keeper talk in Penguins’ Rock 11 a.m. - Scaredy Cat-Fish River Journey, Costumed divers in Nickajack Lake 11 and 11:30 a.m. – Bite Fright Dive Show Ocean Journey, Secret Reef 1:30 p.m. – Jaws & Claws Ocean Journey, Animal feedings in Boneless Beauties 1:45 p.m. – Pumpkins & Penguins Ocean Journey, Keeper talk in Penguins’ Rock 2 and 2:30 p.m. – Bite Fright Dive Show Ocean Journey, Secret Reef 2 p.m. – Divers Delight River Journey, Costumed divers in Gulf of Mexico 3 p.m. – Swamp Things River Journey, Keeper talk in the Delta Swamp Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince adds to the seasonal fun at the IMAX 3D Theater. Twelve minutes of eye-popping 3D fills the Scenic-City’s largest screen. Two other IMAX 3D offerings promise to create some hair-raising moments. Creepy and cool creatures swim into the laps of audiences during Under the Sea 3D. Great white sharks, sea snakes and squid join a cast of reef animals including Australian sea lions. Lions of another type appear close enough to touch in African Adventure 3D. This film places viewers on safari within the untamed Okavango Delta. Hippos, alligators and elephants are among the species encountered during this virtual tour of one of the world’s most spectacular animal preserves. Experience two buildings full of Spook-tacular fun during the Tennessee Aquarium’s annual family celebration: Aqua-Scarium Halloween Party on Friday, Oct. 30, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Come in costume and celebrate Halloween with the wild ones at the Aquarium, like stinging jellies, bizarre seahorses, squirming octopus and toothy sharks. Begin at Ocean Journey and trick or treat with costumed characters. In River Journey, watch for costumed divers and characters, trick or treat for more goodies and win treasure as you play games. Encounter scales and tails at the animal encounter and dare to touch the unknown. |
