3 Shot On South Kelly Street; 1 In Critical Condition
4th Man Standing In Front Of House Eluded Bullets
posted October 9, 2009

Three men were shot on South Kelly Street early Friday morning and one is in critical condition.

Police said a fourth man was at the scene at 416 South Kelly, but he was not hit.

Around 3:30 a.m., Frederick Fortson, Ernest Bulloch and Michael Hughey were struck by the gunfire, while Corey Jones eluded the bullets.

According to witnesses, the men were in front of a residence when some unknown suspects approached and began firing at the victims.

When police arrived, Fortson was unresponsive and was taken to Erlanger Hospital in critical condition.

Bulloch was shot in the hip and both legs, while Hughey was shot in the calf and foot. Both were also transported to Erlanger for their injuries.

Investigators are still working on suspect leads and details of the incident.

Just before dawn Friday, there was a shooting at a bar in Bridgeport, Ala., and four victims from that incident were brought to Erlanger.

Authorities are searching for Christopher Allen Kerr Jr., 28, of Stevenson. They say he left the scene in a faded teal 1994 Ford Thunderbird.

Authorities said they did not know why Kerr allegedly drove into the parking lot and started shooting.

The wounds are not believed to be life-threatening.
