Lee Sweeps Women's Soccer Honors
posted October 19, 2009

A bi
g win over NCAA Division II Carson-Newman College has helped the Lee Lady Flames sweep Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.

Freshman Leah Wilson, the SSAC Defensive Player of the week, made several key saves (4) to keep the match in Lee's favor in the 4-1 victory over the Lady Eagles, ranked eighth in last week’s NCAA ratings. She has now only allowed four goals on the year in 11 appearances in the Lee net. The goalkeeper has been a key component in the Lee’s climb back to No. 2 in the NAIA rankings.

Forward Jamie Achten had a hand in every goal as the Lady Flames were able to knock off Carson-Newman and earned The SSAC Offensive Player of the Week. She finished the victory with three goals and one assist. The talented sophomore’s 12 goals and 10 assists on the year have moved her into the top 5 in both categories in the Lee Lady Flames record book. She is only half way through the season. Achten's performance was also a key factor in helping to lead her team to victory and giving Coach Matt Yelton his 200th career victory.
