Nov. 7 David Berkeley
Berkeley has earned ASCAP's Johnny Mercer Songwriter Award, was named one of WXPN's Artists to Watch for 2004 and showcased at SXSW two years in a row. His song Fire Sign was featured in the CBS series Without a Trace. He has also shared bills with Nickel Creek, Howie Day, Dido, Ben Folds, Rufus Wainwright, Ray LaMontagne, Rhett Miller, and John Hiatt. Singer/songwriter David Berkeley channels the earthy spirit of Donovan, Nick Drake, and Elliott Smith with his fusion of finger plucked guitar ballads and tastefully arranged pop/rock.
Nov. 14 Kevin Gordon
A north Louisiana native, Gordon grew up hearing music that shares the same raw emotion and spontaneity that he now puts into his own. “My folks would have people over on the weekends, and I remember hearing a lot of Jerry Lee Lewis, a live record on Smash, I think; and Ray Charles. Green daquiris in the blender, wet glass rings on the console, Great Balls of Fire, that music, it hit me hard. I loved it so much, that’s what drove me to want to sing, play, and write." A variety of musical pursuits followed: punk, rockabilly, blues, and now a Nashville-based career as a recording artist and songwriter. Gordon's songs have been recorded by Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Levon Helm of The Band, Ronnie Hawkins, Kate Campbell, Blackie & the Rodeo Kings, and others.
Nov. 20 Pierce Pettis
Pierce Pettis, adored by both critics and public alike, is one of this generation's most masterful songwriters. His music is distinguished by his uncanny ability to capture universals in human experience by drawing on the humor and trials in daily life. Pettis' music can simultaneously pull on our hearts and keep us laughing. The beautiful harmonies, inventive yet subtle percussion, strong guitar, and Pierce's rich vocals are a constant throughout his body of work.
Nov. 21 Tommy Womack
Tommy Womack’s first book, Cheese Chronicles: The True Story of a Rock and Roll You’ve Never Heard Of, has become a cult classic since its publication in 1995, considered required reading by countless musicians who have passed dog-eared copies back and forth in vans and tour buses. He is a two-time winner of the Nashville Scene Best Song award. His most recent CD release, There, I Said It!, won a place on the 2007 year-end best of lists of USA Today and No Depression magazine, among many other outlets and blogs. He has also recorded with the indie bands Government Cheese, the bis-quits, and Daddy.
Nov. 28 Roger “Hurricane” Wilson
Four decades ago he taught hundreds of people to play guitar. In 1972 he began playing professionally. He’s jammed with Les Paul, Hubert Sumlin, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Albert Collins, Roy Buchanan, Magic Slim, Michael Burkes, and Charlie Musselwhite just to name a few. He’s shared the stage doing shows with B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Little Milton, John Mayall, Marcia Ball, Delbert McClinton, Taj Mahal, Leon Russell, and Edgar Winter among many others. With eight CD’s on the market, Roger, with his band, as well as solo, is working overtime, performing 200+ nights a year.
