Judge Moon To Read Poem At Unveiling Of Sculpture Honoring Abused Children posted November 5, 2009
The sculpture was created by Val Lyle, a nationally acclaimed artist who will also attend the unveiling of her work. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates for abused and neglected children in juvenile court. According to Executive Director Carolyn Doty, "Our volunteers represent the best interest of victimized children with the goal of securing a safe and permanent home. Both federal and state laws permit judges to appoint CASA volunteers to speak up for the child's best interest. 'Light of Hope' is both a memorial to children lost to abuse as well as a celebration of children saved." Knoxville Mayor Mike Ragsdale and CASA Board President Chad Kennedy are scheduled to speak at the ceremony. Ms. Doty said, "We have invited Chattanooga Judge Bob Moon to attend this very important event. Judge Moon, is an avid child advocate. We are looking forward to his reading the dedication poem, 'Shelter From The Storm,' that he has written especially for the occasion." The initial ceremonies will be held at 2 p.m. in the Juvenile Court Building and proceed to the unveiling of the sculpture in front of the courthouse. |
