Alexander Opposes Democrats’ Cap-and-Trade Bill
Says Americans Want to Know Cost of New National Energy Tax
posted November 5, 2009

Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-Tn.), a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, made the following statement on Thursday, after Democrats passed their cap-and-trade legislation out of committee without knowing what it will cost taxpayers:

“I am disappointed that Sen. Boxer and the Democrats have reported another 1,000-page bill without a full understanding of what it will cost. Republicans want and expect to participate in any bill about clean energy, but taxpayers expect us to know what this bill costs before we start voting on it.

"The American people need to know what this legislation will cost them in utility bills, jobs, their taxpayer dollars, gas prices and how much it will actually help the environment.”
