A Soddy Daisy resident risked his life to save five dogs from his burning house on Saturday, officials said.

At 6:30 p.m., Lovell Stollard returned home to find his living room on fire. He frantically ran throughout the house retrieving all five of his dogs and escaped with only minor burns.

His neighbor called 911 reporting a house fire at 9977 Smith Morgan Road. Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department responded and found a fully involved house fire. Sequoyah requested Dallas Bay Volunteer Fire Department to respond to assist with additional apparatus and manpower.

No other injuries were reported, but Mr. Stollard was transported to the hospital for further medical observation.

The house was a total loss with damages estimated at $80,000.

The American Red Cross was notified to give Mr. Stollard assistance.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office.
