The city of Soddy Daisy sponsored a Fall Softball League at Veterans Park for men and women's teams which began in September. The league began with cool fall evenings and beautiful sunsets. Then the rains came in October, and the games were pushed behind about two weeks. When the rain finally ended and the fields became playable again the weather began to turn much colder than expected. When the time went back an hour, the temperatures were miserably cold when the sun went down, especially when the wind was blowing. The temperatures sometimes dropped into the low 40s during some of the late games.

On Friday, the Lady Crusaders softball team emerged from the frozen softball diamond as the 2009 Fall League and tournament champions.

I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all the players and the mighty fans of the Lady Crusaders softball team for their hard work and dedication, not only for fall ball , but for every year you have supported the team. I am looking forward to seeing everyone next spring.

Special thanks to the city of Soddy Daisy for allowing us to use the fields and Chad Crowe for organizing, directing the event, and preparing the fields for play. Thanks to the scorekeepers for surviving the cold weather in the scorer's boxes, and Mr. Picket's umpiring crew for putting up with all the coaches and officiating great games.

Thanks also to the concession stand crew, who prepared hot cocoa, hot coffee and warm food to keep us warm on the inside. Thanks to all the great teams and coaches who participated this year in the Fall League.
