Responding to the urgent need of the Chattanooga Community Kitchen, the University of Phoenix – Chattanooga campus is hosting the second annual “Hot Coats for Cold Weather” collection of new or gently-used jackets and coats of all sizes and styles.
As the cold weather is quickly approaching, the Chattanooga campus hopes to collect enough supplies to stock the Chattanooga Community Kitchen coat closet for months to come. Whether it’s a bomber, blazer, poncho, fur, trench or fleece – donated coats will keep someone warm and dry during this season of giving and thanks.
The Campus encourages the community to clean out their closets and stop by the following locations until Nov. 23, to donate any unwanted coats, sweaters or blankets.
Last year, more than 100 coats were donated to individuals in need, thanks to Hot Coats for Cold Weather.
Organizers said, "With the state of the economy and the record unemployment numbers, the Chattanooga Community Kitchen anticipates an even greater need than ever before for donated coats, jackets and other warm clothing, to give to homeless individuals and individuals in need.
"In fact, many of the individuals who have donated food and clothing in the past are finding themselves drawing on the support of Chattanooga Community Kitchen. As a strong community partner, the University is committed to supporting the community it serves through initiatives like 'Hot Coats for Cold Weather.'"
The collection will run through Monday, Nov. 23. Donations can be dropped off Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m.–10 p.m.; Friday, from 9 a.m.–5 p.m.; and Saturday, from 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Final collection items will be delivered Monday, Nov. 23, to the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.
The University of Phoenix - Chattanooga campus is located at 1208 Pointe Centre Drive, Suite 100, in Chattanooga. Bins are located in the lobby.
