A 61-year-old man was struck and killed when he tried to cross a highway at Dayton early Monday morning.
He was identified as Charles Riley Wooten.
The incident happened just after 5 a.m. on Highway 27 near the Scottish Inn.
Officials said the 23-year-old driver from Roane County tried to swerve, but could not avoid hitting the man. He will not be charged.
