Chattanooga's skateboarders are looking forward to the addition of a new shop located at Coolidge Park on the Northshore.
Specializing in all things skateboarding, Comfort Skateshop will open its doors on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Shop owners Chris and Dee Scoggins have been working around the clock preparing the store for business and organizing a kickoff event for the grand opening. The event at 133 River St. will offer a number of door prizes and giveaways, as well as hot dogs and drinks for those in attendance. The shop will exclusively feature skateboards and accessories, including clothing and shoes.
More than moving a lot of product opening day, Chris and Dee said they hope to familiarize themselves with the community and its frequenters. Chris said, "I would like to see people who used to skate when they were young or people who are simply curious about who we are stop by and check out the shop. You don't need to be a skateboarder to come and enjoy what we have to offer."
Being a skateboarder in Chattanooga for over 20 years, Chris said he "has gained a thorough understanding of what it means to be a skateboarder in this town and what kids who have an interest in it need. We want the younger skateboarders to have a place that feels like it belongs to them and to have more opportunities to get out and be active in their city. We want them to benefit from giving back to their communities, doing good in school, and working hard."
Chris and Dee said they "intend to show Chattanooga that skateboarding does have a home here and, for a lot of local skateboarders, that's all they've ever wanted."
