Signal On Saturday And Sunday Is This Weekend posted November 12, 2009 Signal on Sunday and Saturday, the big holiday event which for over 25 years has kicked off the Christmas season on the mountain, will be Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, and 1-6 p.m. on Sunday. It is sponsored by the Signal Mountain Business Association whose 55 members will be participating, including retailers, service organizations and professionals. Santa Claus will be at Signal Plaza on Saturday from 12-2 p.m., and Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Entertainment will be provided at Ashley Plaza with school choirs and cheerleaders. Fire departments from all three areas will participate. Signal Mountain Fire Department will be at Ashley Plaza giving blood pressures and smoke detectors; WRES will be at the Smokehouse/Old Town Antiques with blood pressures and Lone Oak Volunteer Fire Department will be at Signal Mountain Nursery giving blood pressures. On both days members of service organizations will be in Signal Plaza where they will introduce themselves to the community and give out information about their services. All retailers will have a holiday open house with decorations, refreshments and holiday specials. There will be five different locations, Signal Plaza, Signal Crossing, with two locations, Ashley Plaza, Walden Smokehouse/Old Town Antiques and Signal Mountain Nursery. All Signal Mountain residents have received in the mail a postcard advertising the event. There will be several good prizes to lucky winners. To qualify for the drawing, the individual must have their post card marked by at least four of the five locations. The major drawing will be a night's stay at the Mayor's Mansion on Vine Street, which includes dinner at Easy Bistro. There will also be three gift baskets filled with merchants' samples, gift certificates and discount coupons. The purpose of the two-day event has a double purpose. It is the opening of the holiday shopping season and to partner with Signal Mountain Social Services to collect canned goods to assist the organization in providing Christmas baskets for their clients. There also is a fun part in that all the merchants will have scratch off cards with discounts for shoppers at their store. |
