Abba's House Has Broadway Style Christmas Presentation
posted November 12, 2009

Abba’s House in Hixson will present the brand new, Broadway-style musical, 16 Hours To Christmas, Dec. 11-13.

The 1840’s were a time of serious economic woes in England. Celebrated author Charles Dickens was on the verge of bankruptcy, a failed marriage, and losing his children to the workhouses where he, himself, was raised. He left his house and came back 16 hours later to write his greatest and most beloved story ever, A Christmas Carol.

Sixteen Hours To Christmas is a two-act musical drama fictionalization of the events in Charles Dickens’ life during those 16 hours.

Around 350 adults, youth and children are in the cast and choir that will bring this drama to life in song and dance. “This is the biggest program we’ve ever undertaken,” said Ken Hartley, pastor of worship at Abba’s House. “There are 42 people in the speaking cast, and 300 more as choir and extras.”

The program also includes a Living Christmas Tree, a tradition for several years now at Abba’s House.

"A Christmas Carol changed the way the world looked at Christmas back in Dickens’ day,” said Mr. Hartley. "It is still as popular as ever, as evidenced by the recent Disney version of the story. I think this show will give a unique twist to a classic story.”

Performances of 16 Hours To Christmas will be Dec. 11-13, at 7 p.m., with a matinee on Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. Free tickets are available online at abbashouse.com, by calling the ticket line at 877-7292, or at Abba’s House. Doors will open at 6:15 every night for ticket holders, and all remaining seats will be released to those without tickets at 6:45 p.m.

Abba’s House is located at 5208 Hixson Pike, just north of Northgate Mall.
