48Hour Launch Underway this Weekend
posted November 14, 2009

SpringBoard, a resource center for Chattanooga-area entrepreneurs, announced that 48Hour Launch is currently underway at CreateHere. 48Hour Launch, or 48HL, brings bright minds together to participate in an intensive weekend of community building, planning, incubation, and demonstration, officials said.

The first in a series, East Tennessee’s 48HL started at 6 p.m. on Friday and will continue through Sunday at 5 p.m., when teams will present their products and give demos of their prototypes to the public.

Until then, the 45+ launchers focused on five different business plans will continue to work through rounds addressing development, marketing, legal structure, design and usability. Businesses range in focus, though several are tech-based applications — including a Chattanooga 3D mapping project completed in conjunction with Google.

At the opening for 48HL on Friday night, organizers encouraged participants to use this weekend to explore creative ideas and to think big.

“Entrepreneurship is a staple in our city’s history, and certainly in our nation’s,” said Josh McManus, co-founder of CreateHere, the hosting venue for 48Hour Launch. “It’s that pioneering spirit, that set of risk-averse genes, that will drive innovation even in the most dire of economic times.”

The first 48HL coincides with the beginning of Global Entrepreneurship Week Nov. 16-20 and is made possible through generous support from local and national organizations. Sponsors include EPB, Mircrosoft’s BizSpark, the Chattanooga Technology Council, Angel Capital Group, Airnet, Slamdot, Spruz, Harwood, Launch Financial, the Chattanooga Choo Choo, Ackermann PR, Entrepreneurs of Knoxville, Technology 2020, and Estate of Confusion.

48HL is a project by four Tennessee-based organizations, all specializing in entrepreneurship: SpringBoard, Knoxville Overground, Will This Float? and Launch Memphis.
