It was a stray bullet that caused thousands of local Comcast Cable customers to miss seeing the big ball drop on New Year's Eve.
Cable service went out to a large viewing area a couple of minutes before midnight.
Officials said a bullet was fired into a fiberoptic cable line on Duncan Avenue in Highland Park.
Technicians worked through the night to restore service, though the bullet remained lodged in the line.
