Chattanooga’s Live Music Scene – Skin Deep, Delta Queen And Robert T. Nash by Bob Payne, www.myspace.com/davrik posted November 19, 2009
Last week, I complained a bit about some of the venues that don’t seem to need the free listing in our schedule at the bottom of this page. I included the Delta Queen Hotel along with the usual suspects like Spectaters, Bart’s Lakeshore, and The Lower Level. The Delta Queen remedied that problem in about two seconds flat. They have quality live music on board the Delta Queen and we are going to tell you about it. This Saturday, Sallie Beckes and The Louisiana Social Club bring their New Orleans Jazz and Blues to the main stage of the Orleans Room on the Delta Queen. The Texas Lounge aboard the Delta Queen also features live music this Friday, with Banjo Bob Edwards playing ragtime, Dixieland, rock, and country favorites. We appreciate the Delta Queen providing us with the information necessary to get the word out for local music fans. You can check them out by clicking here. I had the opportunity to preview the Skin Deep Band a couple of weeks ago at T-Bones. This is a fine band, with a couple guitars, drums, Keyboards, and a HORN! They also have a wonderful female singer, who can belt out the great R & B standards this band plays. That night, they even had a guest appearance by Dr. Vibe, another of my favorite frontmen. He joined in with the band to do – you guessed it – Mustang Sally. I don’t have a website for the band, so you will just have to keep an eye out here for their next Chattanooga appearance. Here is some huge news – Here Come The Mummies will be performing in Chattanooga on New Years Eve! Watch for details soon, but I can tell you they will be at the Trade Center for a huge party. Make your plans now! Bob’s pick-o-the-weekend is a three-way tie. This stuff is too good to pass up. Friday night at Charles & Myrtles, the great Pierce Pettis takes the stage. On Saturday night, guitar wizard Richard Smith will appear at Barking Legs Theater, along with Julie Adams. Also, on Friday night, Black Cat Moon hits the stage at T-Bones at Chestnut & Main Sts. My pick-o-the week is the big Thanksgiving Eve performance by Bud Lightning at Bud’s Sportsbar in Brainerd. Chris Gomez and friends always put on a high-energy show at Buds. Live In Chattanooga!
