With the help of Recycle Right, the City of Chattanooga’s recycling education program, Lakeside Academy will be implementing a school-wide recycling program with a large education component.
The program was presented by the students and members of Team Recycle on Wednesday, Nov. 18, during an assembly.
“We wanted to teach our students about creating change within our school, our city and our world,” said Lee Core, one of the science club teachers at Lakeside Academy. “But this recycle group also gives these students a sense of pride and purpose; it teaches them leadership skills and gets them involved in a positive extracurricular activity. Recycle Right has been a great help in helping us establish our own recycle program and has provided us with wonderful education tools. We hope our students will take home with them the lessons they learn about recycling so that their families are encouraged to recycle, as well.”
At the Recycle Right launch, the students presented their own Recycle Right posters that encourage other students to recycle and recycle the right way to keep recyclable waste out of the landfill. They presented their goals for establishing recycling in every classroom.
Team Recycle delivered a presentation at the assembly on the importance of recycling and how to recycle right. All science club students received a Recycle Right t-shirt and a certificate of achievement from the school.
Recycle Right is working with elementary, middle and high schools within the City of Chattanooga to further recycling education in the community. In addition to visiting schools for educational assemblies and providing educational materials, Recycle Right is assisting local schools in setting up recycling programs to keep recyclable waste out of the landfill.
