Carl F. Hawkins, Jr., 89, of Dalton, died on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009 at his residence.
He was born Nov. 3, 1920 in Brattleboro, Vt. to the late C. Frank Hawkins, Sr. and Marion Ulmer Hawkins and later moved to Dalton with his family in 1924.
Carl was a veteran of the United States Army having served with the 41st Air Depot Repair Squadron during W W II in North Africa and Italy. He was a member of the Dalton Rotary Club( Will Watt Fellow, Paul Harris Fellow), Dalton Elks Club- past Exalted Ruler, member of the Dalton Golf and Country Club, the Dalton Recreation Commission, Junior Achievement of Dalton Board of Directors (past President), member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and owner of Dalton Sheet Metal Company, Inc.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Edwards Hawkins; and a sister, Sue H. Field.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Carl Frank Hawkins, III., William Edward Hawkins and Jackie all of Dalton; brother and sister-in-law, Dana P. Hawkins and Carolyn of Dalton; granddaughter, Kaelyn Hawkins of Charleston, SC; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Tuesday Nov. 24, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. C. Dean Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, Nov. 24, from 1-3 p.m. in the parrish hall of the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 852, Dalton, Ga. 30722.
