Shortly after 11 p.m., the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 8419 Iris Dr. The house was occupied by two women who said they had smelled smoke. They went outside the house, opened the basement garage door and observed a small fire in the garage. Battalion Chief Mike Knox said that when Quint 21 arrived on the scene the unit found heavy smoke and flames visible from the garage area with fire extending into the upstairs living area. Some of the firefighters attacked the fire in the garage, while another crew entered the front of the house and extinguished the fire that had gotten into the living area and the attic. The residents did not have renters' insurance. No injuries were reported and the Red Cross was called to assist the occupants. Lt.
