City-Wide Events:
“Main X 24” Southside Community Celebration Saturday, Dec. 5, 8 a.m.–8 a.m.
Main Street businesses and local community groups host parade and special holiday activities for a 24 hour period. As part of their annual parade, there will be a “Mutt Strut” to benefit the efforts of the DOGood Chattanooga-citizen group promoting responsible pet practices in the downtown parks.
“Star Light Parade” Saturday, Dec. 5, 6 p.m.
Fun holiday event with floats, bands, cars, etc. that starts at Market Street and MLK and proceeds to the Aquarium. Call the Chattanooga Downtown Partnership at 265-0771.

Therapeutic Recreation’s December – “Express and Progress” Art Class with Tracy Wamp
Frances B. Wyatt Recreation Center Art Center Annex 10 a.m.-noon on Friday, Dec. 4

Driver’s Ed Classes Continue through December at Brainerd Recreation Center Monday and Wednesday, 4:30–7:30 p.m.
Great program coordinated by Traffic Engineering and other city departments.
Outdoor Chattanooga & Related Activities:
Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge by Kayak on Saturday, Dec. 5, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Outdoor Chattanooga and the Tennessee Aquarium OutVenture kayak trip to the Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge. Aquarium aviculturist Kevin Calhoon will host the 3-hour paddle. Cost is $33 ($28 for Aquarium members) and includes all gear, a guide, transportation, warm drink and a snack. Register online or call 800 262-0695.
Outdoor Chattanooga Bicycle Tour at MainX24 Dec. 5, 1-3 p.m.
Outdoor Chattanooga will join the around-the-clock celebration of our revitalized Southside during the MainX24 celebration. Leisurely recreational ride through downtown Chattanooga’s re-emerging neighborhoods. Riders are encouraged to wear their best cycling Holiday finery. Contact ride leader Minya James at 643-6884.
Bike Polo or Rapid Learning Roll Practice Resume on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Weekly pickup bicycle polo game and the Rapid Learning Whitewater Kids Club weekly roll practice will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 1st. Bike Polo is held in Coolidge Park near the Outdoor Chattanooga Center and “roll practice” is held at the UTC Pool.
Holiday in the Woods at CNC on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Chattanooga Nature Center will host a special weekend of outdoor family activities with “Holiday in the Woods.” Call 821-1160.
Triple Crown Bouldering Series – Stone Fort on Signal Mountain on Saturday, Dec. 5
The third leg of the 7th annual Triple Crown Bouldering Series returns to Chattanooga with a
world-class competition. The event attracts some of the best climbers in the nation and benefits organizations that work towards the preservation of climbing areas in the southeastern U.S.

Recreation Division “In-Service” Training Tuesday-Friday, Dec. 8-11, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Watkins Street. Comprehensive training and review. Policies and procedures, programming ideas, community partners, teen issues, workshops and information sharing by recreation staff, city police, public works, EAC, personnel, and other departments etc.
Therapeutic Recreation’s “Chillin’” Group Holiday Potluck

Lookout Valley Holiday Parade Saturday, Dec. 12, 1:30–5 p.m. at John A. Patten Recreation Center. The annual Lookout Valley parade will end at the center and there will be a community holiday party with inflatables in the gym, food, door prizes, etc. This year pottery made in the pottery studio will be some of the door prizes. Holiday Lights at the Zoo
Friday and Saturday, Dec. 11-12, and 18–19, 5:30-8 p.m. The zoo will be decked in holiday lights, crafts, refreshments, games, and family fun. Call 697-1319 for more information.
“Dream Night” Holiday Event for Therapeutic Recreation Program at Chattanooga Zoo
Thursday, Dec. 17, 6-8 p.m. Participants in the TR Program and family/caregivers will enjoy a holiday ball with music, gift swap, and refreshments in the education building as well as a special night at the zoo for individuals with disabilities.
HCDE “Winter/Holiday” Break
Friday, Dec. 18–Tuesday, Jan. 5
The recreation centers will be open from 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m. Monday–Friday while school is out. Super centers Brainerd and South Chattanooga’s hours will remain the same: 9 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–6 p.m.on Friday, and 11 a.m.–4 p.m. on Saturday.
“Princess Holiday Brunch” at Frances B. Wyatt’s Art Center Friday, Dec. 18, 10 a.m.-noon. Fun for girls ages 3-5. Magical Christmas wand craft, games, cookie decorating, refreshments, and special guest Princess visitor. Admission fee: Donation of 2 canned goods for Christmas food drive.
