Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon Raises $114,000 For T.C. Thompson's posted November 25, 2009
Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon. During those three days, listeners heard stories and learned first hand the day to day experiences patients and families go through at the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. As a result of the overwhelming support from Sunny 92.3 and The Mountain listeners, the Cure Kids Radiothon raised over $114,000. These funds will be used to further support cancer research, care, and “I couldn’t be more impressed with the amazing support our listeners showed during the 3rd annual Cure Kids Cancer Radiothon,” said James Howard, Sunny 92.3 DJ and host of the annual event. According to Megan Hooper, Children’s Miracle Network coordinator at Children’s Hospital, funds raised during “power hours” will benefit the Center by providing two laptops, numerous Wii and Playstation video games, and equipment to benefit the proposed family workout room. Most importantly, enough money was raised to send 40 kids to a camp especially designed for cancer patients this summer. The oncology program at Children’s Hospital, the only facility in the region specifically trained to provide cancer care to children and young adults, is part of a national network of children’s hospitals called Children’s Oncology Group (COG). This group meets regularly to share information on childhood cancer and standardize protocols for each kind of cancer. |
