Especially Thankful - And Response
posted November 26, 2009

Unlike all the politicians or wannabes, who take a time like this to drum up support by posting here, supposedly thankful, but in reality, trying to get a vote, there are those like Sabrina Smith, who has a real and heartfelt thankful post. I'm thankful for her.

I'm especially thankful my brothers little six-year-old granddaughter, Mattie, is responding well to her chemo for her recently diagnosed Leukemia.

I'm thankful as a single dad for a beautiful and bright little eight-year-old son named Carter, and his little four-year-old sister, Laura Ann.

I'm thankful I have a good job that pays well, even though it's tough to get by with all my obligations, but there are so many that don't even have a job.

I'm especially thankful that prayers are answered and our needs are met. I'm thankful that even though I'll be alone tomorrow, if nothing else, I'll can always go to "Unity in the Community" for a thanksgiving dinner and be with others who have no where else to go, because we live in a city where people care.

I'm thankful for Christmas on the River and the Starlight Parade for those of us who need cheering up this time of the year.

I'm thankful that Roy Exum is able to write again and blesses us with all his great columns, and that I have been able to e-mail with him and he has replied with just the right words when I needed them.

I'm thankful for Dalton Roberts and all he has done for the people of this county and has always lent a helping hand to so many, that most will never know about, just as he wants it.

And finally, I'm thankful for my faith, answered prayers, and to still be here to write this.

To everyone, I wish you and very wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving.

* * *

I want to thank you for your post Mr. Dempsey. I was beginning to believe that I was the only one who dislikes political "stumping" under the guise of holiday wishes. I made a response to that effect on the prior posting on this website and properly received a tongue lashing from a poster who thinks a certain politician can do no wrong.

I was humbled by the warm wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving from Sabrina Smith during a time that most would find it hard to have any hope or compassion for others. My holiday was spent feeling closer to my family because of her posting and because you shared the blessings in your life with us.

I hope all continues to go well for you and yours.
