Virtual Radiation Therapy Training To Be Demonstrated At GNTC
posted December 1, 2009

Georgia Northwestern Technical College Radiation Therapy program will host an informational demonstration of the VERT training system at a luncheon on Wednesday, at 12 p.m.

As explained on the “Vertual Ltd” website, VERT is a virtual environment of a radiation therapy treatment room. Through captivating 3D views and life-size visualizations, VERT offers an excellent platform for supplying radiation therapy training to students, nurses, and multidisciplinary team members.

VERT can be used to illustrate theoretical concepts and acquire clinical skills in a safe environment; thus delivering benefits for the tutor, the student, clinic staff, and the patient.

GNTC’s Radiation Therapy program administrators learned about VERT during a recent conference in Chicago.

GNTC has invited over 50 guests to experience VERT, including oncologists, physicists, and therapists from the college’s clinical sites. Radiation Therapy students, faculty, and administrators are also invited to attend.

VERT was developed by three British researchers, Professor Andy Beavis, Professor Roger Phillips, and James Ward. The founders of Vertual Ltd started work on VERT as a collaborative research project in 2002 involving the University of Hull and the Princess Royal Hospital of the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust. The founders created Vertual Ltd in 2007.
