Students at Battle Academy will have even more opportunities for hands-on learning, thanks to Unum’s Strong Schools Grants program. Battle teacher Scott Rosenow is the recipient of a $1,000 Unum grant that will fund a news writers program which will allow students to write and report on activities at school. The program helps with language arts, reading and writing as well as helping to keep the school community connected. And it opens a world of career possibilities for children.
Unum’s commitment to local schools is providing high quality experiences to students throughout Hamilton County; this round of grants totals $50,000 and touches the students of 58 teachers. Thanks, Unum – Battle Academy appreciates you.
Cindy Kean, 3rd grade teacher and Garden Club sponsor, received a $1,000 grant co-funded by the Junior League of Chattanooga and the Chattanooga/Hamilton County Health Department. The funds will be used to enhance the school’s rooftop garden, originally designed and built by community members (the Senior Leadership Academy) and Battle families. Thanks for your support, Junior League and CHCHD.
Finally, a budding collaboration called “Half” between Widgets & Stone and HCDE’s Department of Family Engagement will place community volunteers at Battle Academy and Calvin Donaldson. What is Half? The premise that even a half hour once a month can help your local school, and it definitely can change a child’s life for the better. Watch for more news about this initiative in the near future.
