The city of Chattanooga is proposing a host of fee changes that would yield $639,096 in new income for the city.
Richard Beeland of the mayor's office said a number of the fees had not been adjusted in many years.
He said the City Council earlier asked that the fees be checked to see if changes were warranted.
The new fees are reportedly rankling members of the construction industry. Officials of the Associated General Contractors said 30 local contractors had gone out of business in recent months.

The city traffic engineer, or his designated representative, may issue permits to qualifying applicants for a fee of ten dollars ($10.00) per space per day. The city traffic engineer may in his discretion limit the number of spaces and the duration of the permit. The city traffic engineer shall not issue any temporary commercial parking permit if, in the traffic engineer’s opinion, the use of such requested parking space(s) would interfere with any work in the right-of-way or with any event to be held in the right-of-way. For the examination of an application for a permit for any construction, reconstruction, installation, reinstallation or alteration or repair covered by this chapter, the inspection division shall collect, at the time of issuing such permit, for the use of the city, fees as follows, based on B.T.U. input:
For Issuing Permit $35.00 none
Less than 125,000 B.T.U. per hour, each object $10.00 $ 3.00
125,000-less than 250,000 B.T.U. per hour each object $10.00 $ 4.00
250,000-less than 400,000 B.T.U. per hour each object $20.00 $ 5.00
400,000-less than 1,000,000 B.T.U. per hour each object $25.00 $ 6.00
1,000,000-less than 5,000,000 B.T.U. per hour each object $30.00 $ 10.00
