Federal Jury In Chattanooga Awards $22.26 Million In Malpractice Case

A federal jury in Chattanooga has awarded a couple from Franklin, Tn., $22,266,261.31 in a medical malpractice case.

The verdict was in favor of Ben and Bette Donathan.

Mrs. Donathan, 62, was left paralyzed from the waist down after problems developed during surgery for a broken leg.

The jury awarded $19,266,261.31 in favor of Mrs. Donathan against Delores K. White, D.O., Ronald Gordon, M.D., Christopher A. Will, C.R.N.A. and Cumberland Healthcare Group.

It awarded Mr. Donathan $3 million against the same defendants.

The suit was filed in April 2007.

Judge Sandy Mattice presided over the trial.

The couple was represented by the Nashville law firm of Kinnard, Clayton & Beveridge.
