Custom House To Be Sold At Auction On Aug. 1
posted July 12, 2002

TVA will be selling the historic Custom House on East 11th Street at auction on Aug. 1 at 1 p.m.

Officials said it is part of an effort by TVA to reduce its office and building costs.

Bankruptcy Court utilizes the Custom House and is expected to continue to do so until a new Federal Courthouse is built here.

The Custom House, which is across Lindsay Street from City Hall, was Chattanooga's first Federal Court building.

TVA has owned it since 1956, and Bankruptcy Court has been there since 1988.

Minimum bid at the auction has been set at $2.5 million for the 1893 stone structure.
