Family Had Memorial Service, Then Learned Cremains Were Bogus posted September 18, 2002 A lawsuit has been filed by a family that said they were given purported cremains of their relative by Franklin-Strickland Funeral Home - only to later find the body. The suit is filed in Hamilton County Circuit Court against the funeral home and members of the Marsh family who operated Tri-State Crematory. There were 339 uncremated bodies found at the Noble, Ga., facility last February. The suit was filed by Marie Bowens and Kimberly Flournoy, smother and stepsister of Johnny Edward Bowens, who died Feb. 27, 2001. The suit says the cremains said to be those of Johnny Edward Bowens were returned to the family in time for a memorial service. Then, the body was found at the crematory. The plaintiffs are asking $1.5 million in damages in the suit filed by attorney John M. Hull. |
