We were very pleased with our visit to Shalimar. I must warn you though - there are some spicy items on the buffet - so if you aren't into spicy - ask. In addition to the buffet, they have a menu and will be slowly incorporating items as they get the business going.
When we were there for the review, only the buffet was open, as the menu hadn’t been added. We were very impressed with the buffet prices - $5.95 for lunch and $6.95 for dinner. The night we were there, we found the following items on the buffet - but you might find something completely different as the buffet menu changes daily: lettuce and tomato salad, fruit salad, yogurt rice (my favorite), Rice Kheer, Chicken Soup Country-Style (this was definitely a spicy one), Pappad (baked right there at Shalimar in a Clay oven), Tandoori Chicken, Chicken Curry, Potato/Pea Curry, Baingan hurlba, Sambar, Vegetable Pulao and Vegetable Bajis.
The bread (Pappad) was extremely fresh and hot - it was delicious. They brought a basket to our table and I took the last couple of pieces home and heated them for breakfast the next morning. We both especially enjoyed the Vegetable Bajis - I noticed that these are referred to as appetizers - but we ate them with our meal, as they were quite tasty.
We are not really that familiar with Indian food over-all as there just aren't that many places in Chattanooga where you can get it - but I will say that the food at Shalimar is absolutely delicious and the people are extremely friendly and helpful with your choices.
Even though we know probably less about Indian food than most any other, we find that most everything we have tried is delicious and I am sure we will venture back to Shalimar soon as the food is definitely worth the visit.
Hours for Shalimar Authentic Indian Cuisine are lunch Tuesday through Friday 11:30 AM until 2:30 PM and on Saturday and Sunday 12:00 PM until 3:00 PM. Dinner hours are Tuesday through Sunday 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Shalimar is closed on Monday.
