Tribute To The Columbia Space Shuttle Crew
posted February 2, 2003

When I look into the sky,
And wonder at the magic so
The tears well up in my eyes
As I ponder “where did they go?”

The Columbia, on our nation’s wing
Was to be retired,
But budget woes and other things
Kept her in the air.

When we, our world, must face the pain,
All grieve as one, united.
Gathering amongst the shattered dreams,
Yet hearts are not divided.

Brave! Living out their dreams each day,
Until God will bring them home.
Ah, they rest! But grief I lay
On my heart, heavy, like a stone.

Death, destruction, fear and woe,
The astronauts must ignore,
Dreaming of starry skies ‘ere they go
Taking courage to the core.

Oh! I know they touch those stars,
And faces of angels, so rare!
To all, they give body and soul,
In uncharted lands they dare!

So celebrate their lives, their dreams!
Even though they’re gone.
Because in the end, we are here;
And they’re at heaven’s throne!
