First American Cash Advance and First Southern Cash Advance announced a donation of $100,000 to the American Legion September 11th Memorial Scholarship Fund in honor of the men and women who have lost their lives in the War in Iraq.
The fund provides higher education scholarships to the children of military personnel killed on or after Sept. 11, 2001.
In addition to this initial donation, all 330 branches of First American and First Southern Cash Advance will take part in a “We Put Our Troops First” drive through May.
During this drive, all locations will offer “We Support Our Troops” bumper stickers for a minimum donation of $1, and 100 percent of the donations will go to the scholarship fund. Through this “We Put Our Troops First” drive First American hopes to raise an additional $50,000 for the fund.
Jim Patterson, majority owner of First American Financial Services, parent company of First American and First Southern Cash Advance, said, “As a veteran of the United States Air Force, it is an honor to provide support to the children of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. There is no greater sacrifice than for a member of our armed services to lay down their life for their country, and we must never forget the children these brave men and women leave behind.”
Children of active duty military killed at war are entitled to receive money toward a college education, but it is not enough, which is why The American Legion September 11 Memorial Scholarship Fund was established. It provides scholarships to help fill the gap and support those left behind.
