“Marriage Celebration 2003” Set Aug. 22, 23
posted July 12, 2003

The 2nd Annual African American Marriage Celebration will be Aug. 22 (6 p.m.- 9:30 p.m.) and 23 (9 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.) at the Chattanoogan.

Husbands and wives will take a break from their usual Friday evening and Saturday routine to come together to strengthen their marriages, officials said.

Kenneth and Ruth Brinkley and Ronald and Jacqueline Jones are Co-Chairpersons for this year’s African American Marriage Celebration. First Things First and the African American community are serious about strengthening families and decreasing the divorce rate in Hamilton County and this is one great way to make that happen, it was stated.

Dr. Paul Cannings, Pastor of Living Word Fellowship Church and his wife Everette, of Houston, Texas, are this year’s conference speakers. Among other duties, Dr. Cannings is the National Director of Outreach-The Urban Alternative, the President of Power Walk Ministries, and a highly respected author.

This year’s celebration is moving downtown to the Chattanoogan to make room for the anticipated 500+ crowd. Couples can enjoy a romantic two-day retreat right here at home, officials said.

There will be a ceremony honoring couples who have overcome obstacles in their relationships to have long-lasting, loving marriages. These couples will share their encouraging stories with the audience.

Individuals who are preparing or would like to know how to have healthy marriages are also encouraged to attend. Dr. Cannings will specifically address the things “singles” want to know about marriage.

“Marriage Celebration 2003” will be a time of "powerful teaching, fantastic food, fun, and great fellowship." The cost is $35 a couple or $17.50 for an individual. There are also special room rates for those who wish to stay at the Chattanoogan.
