Ramsey Says County Awaiting Master Plan On Moccasin Bend posted December 1, 2003 County Executive Claude Ramsey said the county and city are awaiting a master plan for the new Moccasin Bend National Park before turning the land over. "We want to make sure it's not just going to be held as a weed field," he said. Mr. Ramsey said he has been assured that a master plan for the Bend park is being developed, but he said he has not yet seen it. He said the city and county also are looking to see what the state does. The state is the largest landowner at Moccasin Bend. Rep. Zach Wamp is urging that the state, city and county proceed on a fast track to turn their land over for the new national park. He said he secured $500,000 for bank stabilization at Moccasin Bend, but he said the money cannot be used until the land transfers are in place. There are 424 acres owned by the city and county and 246 acres owned by the state that are earmarked for the new park that is to be a unit of Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. |
