The Mayor of the City of Cleveland, Tom Rowland, signed a proclamation declaring February as Financial Aid Awareness Month.

“I believe that financial aid is important to current and prospective college students,” said Mayor Rowland. “They should be commended for investing the time, effort and finances while looking at the long-term.”

In observance of Financial Aid Awareness Month the Lee University Financial Aid Office will be hosting their 3rd Annual Financial Aid Fair on Thursday, Feb. 5 in the Lee University Centenary Room from 11:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

"We place great importance on financial aid awareness, especially during Financial Aid Awareness Month of February,” said Lee University Director of Financial Aid, Michael Ellis. ”We believe it is very important to make students aware of all the financial aid opportunities available to them.”

There will be free pizza, drinks provided by Coca- Cola, cakes provided by Little Debbie, and candy provided by M&M Mars.

Among the activities and resources at the fair there will be free scholarship searches through the Student Outreach Service Mobile Unit provided by EdAmerica/EdFincancial Corporation and computers available to apply for the federal PIN numbers needed to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Representatives from the military and from several lending institutions will participate, such as Union Planters, SunTrust, Amsouth, Citibank, and Chase Bank. In conjunction with the Lee University Financial Aid Office staff, the Tennessee State Assistance Corporation (TSAC) will be providing information regarding all Tennessee financial programs including the new Tennessee Hope Scholarship to be implemented in August.

February is not only Financial Aid Awareness month for Cleveland, but also for the state of Tennessee.

The Tennessee Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (TASFAA) and Lee University are committed to the promotion of information and technical assistance for needy students who wish to apply for post-secondary school financial assistance.
