The Lady Mocs softball team could not get key hits at opportune moments and dropped back-to-back games Saturday in the Frost Classic. UTC lost 6-0 to Wisconsin and 4-1 to Buffalo.
The Lady Mocs (10-9) managed seven hits against Wisconsin (10-4), but left seven runners on base. Jeannie Cochran and Amanda Hoiness both had a pair of hits to highlight UTC’s offense.
Against Buffalo, the Lady Mocs and Bulls were tied 1-1 after seven innings, but when the teams went to the international tie break in the eighth, Buffalo scored three runs. UTC could not push across a run in the extra inning. Leslie Barron drove in UTC’s only run in the sixth.
Pitcher Lacey Swarthout was touched for 10 runs (eight earned) while tossing 14 innings. She had six strikeouts, two walks and gave up 18 hits.
The Frost Classic action continues Sunday with eight more scheduled games at Frost Stadium and Hargraves Field. UTC will play Marshall at 2:30, followed by Alabama at 4:45, both at Frost Stadium.
