Chattanooga will host the Tennessee Libertarian Party Convention for the first time the weekend of April 2-4.
Tennessee’s 22 delegates to the Libertarian Party’s national convention, to be held May 27-31 in Atlanta, will be selected. These delegates will help choose the party’s Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees for 2004.
Two of the Libertarian Party candidates for President of the United States are scheduled to address the convention, which will be held at the Hilton Garden Inn on Chestnut Street.
Gary Nolan, a nationally syndicated radio talk show host from Ohio, will address the convention at the Opening Reception on Friday, April 2. Film producer Aaron Russo of Nevada will address the convention during a Saturday luncheon.
The keynote speaker for the Tennessee convention is Sharon Harris, president of Advocates for Self-Government. She will speak Saturday evening on “Reasons for Optimism.”
All speakers and seminars are open to the public.
The Libertarian Party is "America's largest and most successful third party," officials said. Founded in 1971, today the party is organized in all 50 states. Currently, more than 590 Libertarians hold public office, more than all other third parties combined. Libertarians, Republicans and Democrats are the only three parties in U.S. history whose slates of candidates have received over a million votes for U.S. House of Representatives in a single election, it was stated.
