Cheney In Town For GOP Fundraiser
posted April 19, 2004

Vice President Dick Cheney was due in Chattanooga on Monday afternoon for an evening Republican fundraiser.

He was due to arrive at the Chattanooga Airport at mid-afternoon.

The fundraiser is at the Chattanoogan hotel on Broad Street.

Laura Bush plans a Friday trip to Memphis for another fundraiser.

State Democrats hit the visits, saying, "The Bush-Cheney administration is placing a higher priority on taking political money out of Tennessee than putting jobs in it.

"Dick Cheney is in Tennessee for a $5,000-a-snapshot photo-op while 70,000 Tennesseans have lost their jobs from Bush-Cheney economics. How much money do Republicans need in the bank before they make jobs and balanced budgets a priority?"

Randy Buttons, state Democratic Party chairman, said, "Cheney will be and taking photographs with campaign contributors for $5,000 and meeting with guests for $1,000 each, Monday night in Chattanooga. In fact, event host Frank Fowler is a Bush-Cheney campaign "ranger," having already raised or personally contributed $200,000 to the Bush campaign efforts.

"The money raised will be used for Bush's record-size, $200 million negative advertising campaign to take focus off the Bush-Cheney failure to create jobs."

He added, "Although President Bush claims to be focused on 'the people's business' and 'getting the economy rolling,' the real effect of George Bush's agenda in Tennessee is the business of corporate deal-making and getting the numbers in his campaign bank account rolling."
