Billy Joe Shaver Kicks Off Nightfall On Friday

The Chattanooga Downtown Partnership kicks off the 2004 Nightfall Concert Series this Friday, May 28, with the soulful country music of Billy Joe Shaver.

This native Texan has had a career spanning more than three decades writing and performing carefully crafted songs drawing from his sixty-three years of pain and joy. Shaver has worked with some of country musicıs biggest names, such as Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson. Music icons Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan and the Allman Brothers Band have covered his songs.

In 2000, Shaver recorded the acclaimed song "The Earth Rolls On", written after experiencing the loss of his mother and wife to cancer. In November of 2002, he released Freedomıs Child, "Šcertainly one of the yearıs best country albums," according to Joe Heim of The Washington Post.

Preceded by opening act The Rounders at 7:00 p.m., Billy Joe Shaver will take the stage at 8:00 p.m.

Nightfall has been bringing an eclectic mix of rock, blues, jazz, reggae, zydeco, funk, bluegrass, and folk music to Downtown Chattanooga for the past 17 years. This free 17-week series is held in Miller Plaza on Friday evenings from Memorial Day weekend through October 1. Beer, liquor, food and non-alcoholic drink concessions are available on site. No outside food or beverages are allowed. A limited number of handicapped parking spaces will be available on Georgia Avenue in front of the Joel Solomon Federal Building.
