MILLINGTON, Tenn. -- Grundy County made history on Tuesday afternoon by winning the school's first game at the state baseball tournament.

The 'Jackets defeated Alcoa, 12-0, in five innings behind the pitching of Dustin Fults. Grundy was winless in two previous trips to the state tournament.

"The kids played great,'' said Tom Melton, who has been Grundy County's coach since 1998. "It was our first win ever. What else can you ask for?

"I just hope we can do the same thing and get another win tonight. I'm tickled for these kids. They are not quitters. They will play until it's over and they won't lay down.''

Grundy County (32-7) will play the Milan-Dyer County winner on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the winners bracket.

Grundy took a 2-0 lead after two innings. In the third, Michael Sanders had a two-run triple to put the 'Jackets up, 4-0. Grundy put the game away with eight runs in the fifth.

Sanders was 2-for-3 with three RBI.
