Indian Summer Days Set Oct. 2, 3 At Audubon Acres posted September 1, 2004 The Chattanooga Audubon Society will host its annual Indian Summer Days at Audubon Acres from 10:00 a.m. until dusk on Saturday, Oct. 2, and Sunday, Oct. 3. Indian summer Days is a fall celebration of the Chattanooga area's Native American heritage through skills such as dances, storytelling and music. The Battlecreek Singers are host drum. Formed in 2002 by Cherokee-born Lee Trevino, the Battlecreek Singers have performed at powwows throughout the southeastern United States. Fred Bradley is the Legend Keeper for Indian Summer Days. Bradley dresses in late 18th Century attire and has shared Native American stories at powwows for over thirty years. Mike Serna, an Apache-born flutist, will perform ballads and serenades from his new CD Clouds in the Pass. Cherokee singer-songwriter Jamie Russell will also play tracks from Cherokee Pride, his latest CD release. Artisans will exhibit skills such as woodcarving, mask making and flint knapping to visitors. Sunday will feature demonstrations of Native American pastimes such as stickball, Cherokee marbles and chunky. "Indian Summer Days will provide a cultural immersion for visitors who want to learn more about Native American culture," Chattanooga Audubon Society Executive Director Richard Dube' said. One day tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and $2 for senior citizens. Tickets for Saturday and Sunday are $8 for adults, $5 for children ages 5 to 12 and $3 for senior citizens. Children under 5 years old receive free admission. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Chattanooga Audubon Society. The Chattanooga Audubon Society is a non-profit organization whose mission is to educate and promote an understanding of the responsibility borne by all individuals to preserve and protect our environmental, cultural, and historical resources through programming and stewardship.
