Weekly Road Construction Report posted September 9, 2004 I-75 widening project (mm 6 to mm 9) Motorists should be alert to changing conditions. Two lanes in each direction will be maintained throughout construction, with the exception of periodic nighttime or weekend lane closures. Congestion will be evident for several more weeks from the Lee Highway and Bonny Oaks Drive intersection to Jenkins Road to allow grading and installation of the drainage system. The contractor has tentatively scheduled to shift traffic to the new concrete roadway on I-75 North from Bonny Oaks Drive to the north end of the project on Tuesday night, Sept. 14. To do this, the contractor will close one lane of I-75 North from mile marker 7 to mile marker 9 beginning at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 14, and ending at 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15. One lane of traffic will be maintained through the work zone. Motorists may wish to seek an alternate route and, as always, watch for workers in the roadway performing the shift. This shift will allow the contractor to begin the next phase of the project, consisting of completing the interstate grading and placing final concrete. Several more traffic shifts will be made as the final phases of work progress. Public notifications will be issued as future shifts are planned. Motorists traveling from Summit to I-75 North must detour to the temporary loop ramp. Signs, as well as a message board, indicating directions to I-75 North have been installed until traffic becomes familiar with the temporary route. I-75 Enterprise South Interchange (mm 9 to mm 11) The construction of the interchange to Enterprise South has begun. Two lanes in each direction will be maintained throughout construction with the exception of periodic nighttime or weekend lane closures. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions throughout the work zone. Currently the contractor is clearing the site and excavation has started. Estimated completion date is December of 2006. U.S. 127 (SR-8, Market St.) resurfacing project from Martin Luther King Boulevard to 20th Street This project is now complete except for work proposed between 1st Street and 4th Street. Currently, sewer work by the city of Chattanooga is delaying the completion of this final work. Immediately after the city has completed their work the contractor will schedule to complete this remaining paving work. Estimated completion date is June 2005. Resurfacing of Broad Street (U.S. 11/41/64/72, S.R. 2) from the Overhead Railroad Bridge to 13th Street and U.S. 11 from the Georgia State Line to Cummings Highway (U.S. 41) The resurfacing project is tentatively scheduled to begin on the evening of Monday, Sept. 13, and work will be performed each night beginning at 7 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m. the following morning. Currently the contractor is scheduled to maintain a seven-night per week work schedule on this project until it is completed. The estimated completion date is Nov. 30. Resurfacing of Ringgold Road (U.S. 41/76, S.R. 8) from north of the Georgia State Line to west of Tombras Avenue Preliminary work (lowering of manholes, milling of intersections, installation of traffic detection loops) is tentatively scheduled to begin on this project on the evening of Monday, Sept. 13. All work on this project will be performed each night beginning at 7 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m. the following morning. Currently the contractor is scheduled to maintain a Monday through Saturday schedule on this project until it is completed, with no work occurring on Sunday evenings. The estimated completion date is Nov. 15. Highway 153 from I-75 to North of Amnicola Highway. This project is complete pending the contractor addressing the final punchlist items. SR-319 (Hixson Pike) from Hideaway Lane to Dallas Hollow Road This project is complete pending final inspection and punchlist work. US-127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Blvd.) from US-27 (SR-29) to SR-27 (Suck Creek Road) The contractor continues work on this project. Motorists should be aware of the following potential delays and seek an alternate route. Mountain Creek Road will be closed to traffic at the intersection of Signal Mountain Road beginning at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, and ending at 6 a.m. on Sunday Sept. 12. Motorists should detour to Runyon Drive, Cross Street or Glendale Drive to bypass the work zone. The road closure is necessary to install storm sewer. Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane between Runyon Drive and Mundy Street during non-peak periods each day this week. The temporary lane closure is necessary to install storm sewers. Russell Avenue will remain closed all week between Signal Mountain Road and Grandview Avenue. The closure is necessary to install curb and gutter. Through traffic should detour around via Glendale Drive, Cross Street or Mountain Creek Road. Eastbound traffic between Pineville Road and U.S.-27/SR-29 will be reduced from three lanes to two lanes as soon as weather permits. This traffic change is necessary to safely construct proposed changes to facilitate the widening of Signal Mountian Blvd. Motorists should use caution within the work zone, and be alert for changing traffic conditions. |
