Habitat Launches Thanksgiving House Campaign
Maclellan Foundation Grant to Match Donations
posted October 28, 2004

“The holidays are just around the corner, and there is a new opportunity to help move deserving families into simple, decent and affordable Habitat for Humanity homes,” said Jack Riggar, resource director with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga.
.
“We have built Thanksgiving Houses several times in the past, but starting now we hope to build a Thanksgiving House every year,” he continued. “Our goal for this first campaign it to raise $50,000, which is the cost of one house, but eventually we hope to build several Thanksgiving Houses each year.”

Habitat recently received word that the Robert L. & Kathrina H. Maclellan Foundation will match new donations dollar for dollar up to $50,000. This is an opportunity for people in the community to come together to potentially touch the lives of two Chattanooga families in need, said Mr. Riggar. “Every gift counts - whether you can give $10,000 or $10, your gift will have double the impact right now!”

He said those who can help should write their checks to Habitat for Humanity, mark it “Thanksgiving House” and mail it to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga, 1201 East Main Street, Chattanooga, TN 37408, or drop it by Habitat’s office during regular office hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga is working to eliminate poverty housing in Chattanooga by moving 12 families into simple, decent and affordable new homes each year. Habitat’s zero interest loans and its homeowner education programs give its partner families a hand up, not a handout. So far, more than 170 Chattanooga families enjoy the benefits of homeownership through the Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga ministry.
