Nationally known square dance caller/comedian Nasser Shukayr will be here Sunday to call a dance at Allemande Hall, Standifer Gap at Gunbarrel Road.
The featured caller, of Lebanese descent, calls dances all over the world and comes here by way of Louisiana and California. He will be calling this winter in Harlingen, Texas.
Bob and Jackie Scott will provide rounds from 1 to 2 p.m. and square dancing will be from 2 to 5 p.m.
Caller Shukayr does what are described as some “hilarious things” in his calling, such as calling squares in rap style which he says gets teenagers into the activity. He is also said to be “wonderful at exploding squares where he has the dancers moving from one square into another, thinking they will never be back with their original square, but they do return.”
While he has talent as a stand-up comedian, he combines his natural comedy talent with calling square dances.
