State GOP Chairman Asks Attorney General Check Sen. Ford Residency
posted January 25, 2005

Nashville - State Republican Party Chairman Bob Davis on Tuesday sent a letter to Attorney General Paul Summers inquiring about recent comments regarding State Sen. John Ford's legal residence, and whether or not he is abiding by state residency law.

In recent Juvenile Court proceedings, Senator Ford acknowledged that he had two residencies, and according to the Nashville Tennessean, both of which were outside his South District State Senate district.

Mr. Davis said, "Four years ago the Democrats launched a bogus witch hunt on Mae Beavers and her residency during the 2000 State Senate race. All claims were erroneous and Mae was exonerated. I simply want to know is Senator Ford is abiding by state election laws, and if he isn't, what steps need to be taken to file a formal legal inquiry."

The news story said Sen. Ford, 62, testified in a juvenile court hearing that he keeps two homes, living with two different women whose children he fathered.

This is the letter:

Dear General Summers:
It has come to my attention that State Senator John Ford has recently stated that he resides at two homes outside of his State Senate district. Please advise the appropriate steps to have this matter investigated to determine if Senator Ford is in compliance with Tennessee state laws regarding his service in the state legislature.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Sincerely,
