"Normally, I would be covered up with invitations to school functions at this time of year. But I haven't received one for four months," said the commissioner, who is chairman of the commission's education committee.
Commissioner Adams also said that school board member Joe Conner had sent word that he no longer wants to get correspondence from him.
Supt. Jesse Register denied that there is a campaign at the schools to snub Commissioner Adams.
Dr. Register said he remains open to working with Commissioner Adams, who earlier called for him to step down.
Commissioner Adams, who was one of five commissioners to vote against a tax increase last year, said school officials "are taking the attitude of 'kill the messenger.'"
He said his message is that the schools under Dr. Register have gotten big infusions of money, but say they are continually strapped for funds. Dr. Register says the county schools are underfunded.
Commissioner Adams said he has tried to continue providing information that is passed on to him to school officials and board members, but he said, "They have pretty closed minds."
He said Mr. Conner sent word through Commissioner Larry Henry that he wants off the Adams mailing list.
Commissioner Adams said school officials and board members should be willing to listen to complaints he gets about the schools, including one from a teacher who said teachers are being ignored in the process for adopting new math textbooks.
He said, "Some of these things may not be what they want to hear, but they may be what they need to hear."
School officials said the school system is going through the process for textbook adoption, and it involves a number of meetings by committees. They said all secondary math teachers were given a questionnaire to give their input on the math program selections. They said elementary teachers will get the same opportunity once the math programs are narrowed to three selections.
They said Commissioner Adams is among those invited to an upcoming dedication ceremony for the new Howard School gym.
