Opponents of the planned Coolidge Hotel near the Walnut Street Bridge staged a "Baloons on the Bridge" demonstration on Saturday.

Mayor candidate Ron Littlefield and his wife, Lanis, were among those taking part.

Lynn Curtis said before the event, "Please join us as we demonstrate the height of the 'Coolidge Hotel,' the large proposed monstrosity the North Shore Design Review Committee has approved to be built taller than the Walnut Street Bridge.

"Join us in attempting to exceed our goal of 10,000 petition signatures against the building of the Coolidge Hotel and sending the message to all mayoral candidates that the people want to be heard and stop this construction.

"We are requesting that our government leaders preserve the character and beauty of this historic area of Chattanooga."

She said volunteers will be available with petitions for signatures from 10:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
