King head soccer coach Matt Lavinder said, "These three signings were really important to us. We've had a lot of success with Chattanooga players recently. We signed three from Chattanooga last year with Criss Golden, Rob Carden and Igor Slisko. They've been excellent additions and the three we signed today are top quality, as well."
Robby Miller is considered by most as the best senior goalkeeper in Tennessee this year, Lavinder said. Miller was the goalkeeper for Manny Sanchez's strong U17 Redoubt Generals last year and is the goalkeeper for Pedro Kozak's U18 PSA team this year.
"Robby has the potential to be an excellent college goalkeeper," commented Lavinder. "He's tall, aggressive in the air, and very athletic. He's been well coached and should be able to transition to the college game fairly quickly."
David Rowland is a Grace midfielder, who tallied 8 goals and 4 assists in only 8 games last season. "David is a good athlete with an excellent attitude. I expect him to assume a defensive role this fall as he adjusts to the college level. David has the potential to contribute in several different roles in our system," said Lavinder.
Rowland expects to major in Business with a minor in Political Science.
Jonathan Moss was also named as one of the 11 Chattanooga soccer players. Moss is considered to be one of the top three senior forwards in the state, Lavinder said. Moss is a prolific scorer, registering 22 goals and 7 assists in his junior season.
Moss also excelled for Sanchez's Redoubt Generals last season and Gordon Heins' Knoxville Select this fall. "I have been extremely impressed with Jon," said Lavinder. "He's proven to be a goal scorer, but also very strong defensively and off the ball. He reads the game really well, tackles hard, and can score goals. That is a rare combination to find. I'm really impressed with his versatility and I could see Jon contributing in a number of different ways this fall."
Moss plans to major in King's new Forensic Science program.
Miller, Rowland, and Moss join Knoxville Farragut's Austin Rhodes and Seymour's Omar Lopez in King's 2005 recruiting class.
The Tornado will return 21 players from the 2004 squad.
