A woman was killed early Friday morning after a van hit a light pole on the passenger side on I-75 near the East Ridge exit.

The accident happened around 2:45 a.m.

The driver was not badly injured, and she was charged with DUI.

Chief Eddie Phillips said East Ridge Fire-Rescue, Police and Erlanger Lifeforce EMS responded to the single vehicle accident in the 1500 block of I-75 southbound.

He said a white Mercury mini-van had apparently crossed three lanes, left the road and struck a light pole and sign post.

One of the passengers in the vehicle was ejected and sustained fatal injuries. Identity of the victim is being held pending notification of next of kin.

Chief Phillips said the driver received minor injuries and refused medical treatment.

A team of East Ridge Police traffic accident reconstruction investigators responded to the scene to perform the investigation into the crash.

Traffic investigator Corporal J.R. Reed arrested the driver for DUI. Other charges are pending.
Arrested for DUI was Jeni Rebecca Beavers, 33, of 34 Polk Circle, Fort Oglethorpe.
